چکیده

Proteins may play an important role in the formation of gallstones, but their secondary structure remains unclear in gallstones. In this paper, the insoluble materials of human pigment gallstones dissolved with chloroform, ethanol, ether and hydrochloric acid were studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The results show that the insoluble materials of gallstones are mainly composed of bilirubinate salts and proteins. The secondary structure of proteins in pigment gallstones may contain more a-helix. q 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

The concentration of heavy trace elements in pigment and cholesterol humangallstones: Comparative studies by PIXE analysis.

Background: The method of proton induced X-ray emission (PIXE) has been widely used as a sensitive technique to trace elemental analysis in both biological and medical fields. The sensitivity of this powerful method is in the order of ppm .The aim of this work is to analyze structural composition of 4 heavy trace elements with Z greater than 24 (Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn) in two kinds of gallstones and to...

Identification of gallbladder mucin-bilirubin complex in human cholesterol gallstone matrix. Effects of reducing agents on in vitro dissolution of matrix and intact gallstones.

The goals of this study were to isolate and characterize the nonlipid matrix of human cholesterol gallstones. The lipid portion of gallstones was dissolved in ethanol/ether, leaving an insoluble, granular, brown-black matrix that constituted 12.5% of solitary large stones and 3.5% of multiple small stones. The matrix was partially solubilized by sonication and studied by exclusion gel chromatog...

On Black Pigment of Gallstones with Special Reference to Comparison with Bilirubin Derivatives.

It was found in the preceding experiment that a black pigment isolated from black-appearing gallstones resembled melanins but was definitely different from the latter in the chemical structure. As a continuation of the study, this report depicts the results of comparison of the pigment with black substances prepared in vitro from various bilirubin materials. When synthetic calcium bili rubinate...

Relative measurement of heavy elements in the bile, gallbladder and gallstone

ABSTRACT  BACKGROUND: PIXE (Particle Induced X-Ray Emission) is a suitable method for the analysis of biological samples in which heavy trace elements are contained in light matrix elements. It is very important to know which factors or probably elements act as initial seed and lead to growing the sands. The goal of this study was to compare the relative values of Fe/K, Cu/K and Zn/K for gallst...

Association between diet and gallstones of cholesterol and pigment among patients with cholecystectomy: a case-control study in Korea

BACKGROUND The prevalence of cholesterol gallstones is high in Western populations, while pigment gallstones are common in Asian populations. Dietary factors are suggested to be associated with gallstone risk, but their relationship with gallstone type has not been evaluated. This study investigated the association between diet and risk of cholesterol gallstone or pigment gallstone in a Korean ...
